Parent Participation Preschools (PPPs) are non-profit schools founded and run by parents and licensed by the Community Care Facilities Board. PPPs comply with all health, safety, and educational and training requirements. Inglewood PPP is a member of the Council of Parent Participation Preschools in BC.
Duty Days
Duty parents participate in approximately 2 duty days per month for about 3 hours each duty day assisting the teacher in the classroom. Duties in the classroom include helping the teacher set up activities for the day, facilitating the children's play, and cleaning up in preparation for the next day.
At the beginning of the school year each duty parent completes ten hours of orientation. This is comprised of several different components such as: attending general meetings (June and September), an orientation meeting and reading parent education materials and Inglewood PPP's parent handbook. In addition we try to schedule an "experienced" duty parent with a new parent for the first duty day. Duty days are a wonderful experience. On Duty Days parents have the opportunity to play and learn with their child and the children in the classroom. Duty Parents have the opportunity to observe your child develop and socialize.
Job assignment
Each family takes responsibility for one aspect of the administration of the preschool, whether it is helping out with the general administration of the school or serving on the Executive Committee. Click here for the list of jobs.
Members are also invited to join the Executive Committee. As a member of the Executive you have the unique opportunity to be an active leader in your child's preschool environment. It is a rewarding experience that provides an opportunity to take on new challenges in a fun and supportive environment. Click here for the list of Executive Committee jobs.
Monthly meetings
Inglewood's monthly meetings are the first Tuesday of the month (except September and January when we meet on the 2nd Tuesday) One evening meeting per month keeps parents up-to-date on the operation of the school, provides a time for parent education, and generally promotes the community of the school. The parent education segment of the monthly meeting encourages personal development, offers ideas, inspiration, support, and increased awareness of child development. The parent ed is a monthly requirement by licensing for parents to act as duty parents/assistant teachers in the classroom. if a monthly meeting is missed duty parents must do "make up" parent ed for that month. Click here to review the policy and a list of possible "make up" parent ed.
Our monthly executive meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
Fundraising
Each year the families of IPPP evaluate fundraising needs and priorities. Typically IPPP's fundraising efforts have consisted of one major fundraiser including a silent auction. Early in the school year our fundraising chairperson usually presents ideas for a fundraiser and the parent group votes for its favorite. As stated in the parent handbook it is the responsibility of families enrolled at Inglewood PPP to support the voted upon fundraising initiatives. IPPP's fundraising efforts are typically well supported by alumni families as well!
